Wayne “Pops” Massey went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Wayne was born on April 4, 1936 in Madison County, North Carolina to his parents, Avery and Gertrude Massey. He was married on January 17, 1983 to Boots Massey. Wayne enlisted in the United States Army on December 19, 1956 where he served in Vietnam and Germany. While serving he was decorated twelve times. He retired from the military in 1985. After his retirement from active service, he served as an army civilian until he retired for the second time in 2002 dedicating a total of 43 years to his country. He devoted his remaining years to living lake life with his beloved wife in Hot Springs.
Wayne was a patient and supportive husband, father, grandfather, neighbor and friend. One of his favorite past times was taking his granddaughters to the “candy store” on post. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and Pokey unconditionally. He was a patriot and very passionate about his country.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Boots Massey of Hot Springs, AR, six children, thirteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one dog. Children include Glenda (Bill) Dean of White Hall, AR, Gary Alexander of Curtis, AR, Guy (Kim) Alexander of McDonough, GA, Lori (Wayne) Cayce of Summit, MO, Dede (Charles) Rizor of Conway, MO and Larry (Debbie) Massey of Holts Summit, MO.
Visitation will be held at Davis-Smith Funeral Home in Hot Springs on Monday, February 24th from 6:00 pm-8:00 pm. Graveside services will be held at Gaston Cemetery in Mount Ida Arkansas on Tuesday, February 25th at 10:00am with Larry Carr Officiating. All are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
