Obituary

Carl Wesley Head, age 94, of Benton, left this earth to be with our Lord, Friday, May 11, 2018.

He was born on July 27, 1923 in Sedgwick, the eldest son of Andrew Head and Lilly May Neil Head. On August 25, 1945, he married Nora Aline Burrus, who preceded him in death in 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Andy Head and Morgan Head; one grandson, Aaron Head; one granddaughter Emily Head; and three brothers, Homer Head, Alfred Deen and Jerry Wayne Deen.

Carl was Baptist in his faith. He grew up in Sedgwick until he was 17 or 18 years old. He joined the Civilian Conservative Corps or CCC and there he spent a winter working in South Dakota, he always talked about snow up to the eaves of the roof on the cabins they lived in. In 1942 Carl joined the Army Air Corp; a United States Army veteran, he served during World War II. Carl landed in Normandy a few weeks after the D-Day invasion and campaigned in France and Germany until the end of the war. After the war he and Nora settled in Jonesboro and had three of their six children, two boys and a girl. He then took a job driving a truck for AFCO Steel, in Little Rock and moved to Traskwood, there they had three more boys and lived a happy life until the passing of Nora. Carl lived in the same house until earlier this year, when he moved into Heartland in Benton. Carl was a true hero, a hard worker and much loved. He was a wonderful husband and father, full of kindness and humor, always quick to laugh and slow to anger. He also gained a reputation as quite the poet around Saline County where many of his poems were published by the Benton Courier over the years. He had a long, happy life and now he has a very happy eternity with Jesus in Heaven. All of his surviving family wish that you would ask Jesus into your heart and life so that you can see him again in Heaven.

He is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Dexter and Barbara Head of Hot Springs, Michael Ray Head of Texarkana, Arkansas and Scott and Kathy Easter Head of Traskwood; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly Sue and Eldon Sisney of Hot Springs; six grandchildren, Gabe and Sarah Sisney, Caria and James Edmonds, Ben and Jennifer Head, Mickie Head, Chris Head and Ashley Head; two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Bonnie Deen of Walnut Ridge; one sister and brother-in-law, Patsy and Bob Forkum of Paragould; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends.
